Voula beach

On Friday, it was a bit windy and only about 21 degrees. With other words: a hot summer day in Sweden while the Greeks took out their winter jackets. Even though the weather wasn't the best, we wanted to see more of what Athens had to offer. So at 10 in the morning we once again met up at Syntagma metro station and took the metro to the coast to visit Voula beach.

Voula beach is said to be known for its good infrastructure, impeccable cleanliness, beautiful nature...And should according to many websites, be one of the most popular beaches at the suburbs of Athens. But I'm not sure that I would agree. The city area didn't have that much to offer, the beach was surrounded with broken fence and just by the beach there was a previous beach club that now was abandoned and destroyed. In 2018 the beach was being reconstructed and renovated with the goal that there would be a luxurious beach with beach clubs, cafés as well as sports facilities, such as a basketball court, tennis court, mini golf and a volleyball court. And just a wild speculation, but I guess something went wrong along the way...
Just at the end of the beach, there were some cliffs. And after a few hours we decided to go and explore them. So we found a hole in the fence with big signs, once again with greek letters so we couldn't reed them, and we crawled through (just being honest here). On the other side were beautiful beaches, which, however, seemed to be nudist beaches. Other than that, the cliffs seemed to be home to some homeless people. But the view was amazing and being in a big group, it felt safe.

As soon as we got back to Athens we rushed home and changed our clothes, and then met up at the restaurant 360 Coctailbar where we had made a reservation for 16 people as early as 6 in order to see the sunset. The view from there is said to be one of the best in Athens, and I agree. Although, it was extremely windy that evening and there were dark clouds approaching (and the food was too expensive for us and the portions too small since we all were starving), so we apologized and went on in search of another restaurant.
We once more ended up in the area of Plaka, and were well taken care of by a restaurant that offered us free dessert. We ordered plates to share with meat, seafood, bread, tzatziki, halloumi and more. Most of us were then going out to a gaybar to go clubbing, but me and some other girls decided to take a walk in the city and once again we ended the night with some fresh ice cream before we walked with each other home.

With love, Elsa ♡
