Mykonos day 1

On Thursday at 04:20 in the morning, I met up with my friend Aymen to share a cab to the university where we all met up to take the bus to the port, where the ferry would take us to the island Mykonos for a weekend together with all of the other 400 students. For 120€ we got hotel, transfer, ticket for the ferry, entry to nightclubs and beaches and much more, all organized by the volunteers at ESN Athens. Also, that very same day the Authorities had announced that they were to lift certain COVID-19-related restrictions in high-risk areas.
We managed to get some sleep on the ferry, but we were all tired and hungry so the first thing we did when we got there was to buy food and set up a big brunch at our hotel. According to the forecast it would rain the rest of the weekend, so we changed into our bikinis and took a quick dip in the pool before we walked down to the nearest beach where the other students were already.

We stayed on the beach until the sun went down, and then hurried back to the hotel to shower and to get dressed. Some of us wanted to stay at the hotel, but me and some friends decided to walk down to the center to discover the city. We ended up at the restaurant Pasta Fresca Barkia which I can highly recommend. Everything in Mykonos is a bit more expensive, but that place was really affordable considering what you got!

Of all the Erasmus students at AUEB this semester, we are only two Swedes. Me, and Wenli as you can see in the pictures below. And quite frankly, I'm grateful for that. I love meeting all these people from other countries, with different experiences, habits, views and values and I love that I now speak fluent English without thinking about it.
After the dinner we went to the Scandinavian bar where we had free entry. And after a week in Athens where I constantly had to think about being street smart, it was like a holiday in itself to be able to dress in a short dress and still feel safe. For the first time since I came to Greece, I even put on some makeup. The nightclub soon became full of all the Erasmus students and the atmosphere was just wonderful. And it was the first time since corona first broke out that I was on a real dance floor.

When our legs couldn't dance anymore we walked home, and along the way we of course bought fresh, homemade, ice cream. Over and over again we repeated the sentence "Is it not crazy that we all went to Greece to study, and now we are on Mykonos, in the middle of October!?"

With love, Elsa ♡
